Skeptics said it couldn't be done! In 2003, "The B-Stingers" took a donated, rusted out 1972 MGB, restored the body, modified it for racing, pooled their resources, and hit the track. And made a nice start, too! In our first event, we managed a fast lap time of 2:30, taking 2nd in class and 6th overall (of 17) in the Vintage Drivers Club of America (VDCA) "Wild Hare Run" on April 18, 2004 at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). We realized, talking to others, that this was a miraculous start. How did we jump the learning curve? The answer is the diverse makeup of our team. The collective experience, intelligence, willingness, and dogged determination, we believe, helped us to overcome problems that would have sidelined other teams or single-efforts. In addition, our initial success is due in part to a few other members of the North Carolina MG Car Club (NCMGCC) who kindly donated parts, funds, and encouraged us to continue but (most importantly), never doubted that we could be successful. We also thank the Briggs family and Flying Circus English cars for joining our endeavours and offering a helping hand that has grown into a unique partnership. If our weakness is inexperience, then our strength is resourcefulness and the benefits of several different personalities and perspectives. To date we have entered 11 events, taken the green flag on race day ten times (1 Driver withdrawal) and had only one DNF. We are constantly devising improvements and are looking to build a reputation for running, finishing, being competitive and legal within our group. However things turn out, we're having a lot of fun, and it is our hope to continue to do so as we develop other drivers and continue to develop the race car.
